Exploring Graphs Beyond the Classroom: CHRISTAD Foundation at OEGS

We are proud to share highlights from our recent Maths Club outreach at Oluyole Estate Grammar School (OEGS), Ibadan, held on 25 February 2026.

With a team of dedicated volunteers and the support of the school’s mathematics teachers, we engaged over 50 students from JSS3 to SS3 in an interactive session on Exploring Graphs: Bringing Equations to Life.

The session moved beyond theory into hands-on learning. Students explored linear, quadratic, and trigonometric graphs using technology, visualising in real time how equations translate into shapes and patterns. This practical approach deepened their understanding of key concepts such as slope, symmetry, and wave behaviour.

We are especially grateful to Merz Aesthetics, whose generous donation of computers made it possible for students to actively engage with graphing tools and experience mathematics dynamically.

At CHRISTAD Foundation, our Maths Club is driven by a simple but powerful vision: to help students see mathematics beyond the classroom.

Through activities like this, students begin to recognise how graphs are not just abstract ideas, but tools used in everyday life, including:

·       Tracking mobile phone battery and data usage
·       Understanding heart rate monitors and medical readings
·       Analysing financial trends such as stock prices
·       Modelling sound waves, motion, and seasonal patterns

The enthusiasm from both students and teachers was inspiring, and we are excited about building a sustained Maths Club presence at OEGS.

We look forward to returning soon and continuing to nurture curiosity, confidence, and real-world problem-solving skills in young learners.

A New Chapter for CHRISTAD Foundation: Our Office Space at the University of Ibadan

The CHRISTAD Foundation is delighted to share an important milestone in our journey to expand our reach. We have now established an operational office space at the University of Ibadan. Our sincere appreciation goes to the Department of Mathematics, particularly the current Head of Department, Dr M. E. Egwe, for giving us the opportunity to use an office space within the department.

We would also like to thank one of our volunteers, Mr Richard Efebe, who represented the foundation at the department and played a key role in pursuing and securing the office space.

This space represents more than just an office. It is a hub of learning, mentorship, collaboration, and opportunity for the young people we serve.

A Space Designed for Learning and Impact

Our new office will serve multiple purposes. It will function as:

  • A training venue for mathematics workshops and STEM learning sessions
  • A meeting space for planning programmes and coordinating volunteers
  • An administrative base for managing our educational initiatives
  • A computer hub where tutors can deliver in-person lessons and virtual learning sessions

The office also provides a professional environment where students and volunteers can come together to learn, share ideas, and develop skills that will shape their futures.

A Recent Training Session

Shortly after setting up the office, we held one of our first training sessions in the space. The session brought together tutors and volunteers to strengthen teaching strategies, review upcoming programmes, and explore new ways to make mathematics more engaging for students.

The energy in the room was inspiring. Seeing young educators collaborate and prepare to support the next generation of learners reminded us why the mission of CHRISTAD Foundation matters.

Gratitude to Our Supporters

This milestone would not have been possible without the generosity and encouragement of individuals and organisations who believe in our mission.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to members of the Celestial Church of Christ Elephant & Castle Parish, London, who generously donated used desktop computers to support our learning hub.

We are also deeply grateful to Merz Pharma UK, who donated ten Lenovo laptops, significantly strengthening our ability to run digital learning programmes and training sessions.

These contributions are already making a meaningful difference. They are enabling us to create a technology-enabled learning environment where tutors can teach more effectively, and students can access essential digital tools.

Looking Ahead

The establishment of this office marks the beginning of a new phase for CHRISTAD Foundation. With a dedicated space and improved resources, we are better positioned to expand our programmes, support more students, and continue using mathematics as a pathway to opportunity.

We remain grateful to everyone who has supported us so far and look forward to the impact we will continue to build together.
