Last week, I volunteered for Christad Foundation, a nongovernmental organization passionate about building students interest in Mathematics. They are starting with secondary schools, rewarding best students in mathematics, creating maths clubs in schools, coaching them for international maths competitions like the Olympiad mathematics competition. The earliest memory I have of my interest in Mathematics is of my Dad teaching and helping with my assignments in primary school. I also had the privilege of representing my secondary School at the Cowbell Mathematics Competition. Though I didn’t major in Mathematics at the tertiary level, I’ve taught Mathematics at both Junior and Senior Secondary School level, I’ve also coached students for mathematics examination privately. Even now, Mathematics is a major part of my day-to-day life, either as a fashion designer, a tutor or as a researcher. The first trick to understanding Mathematics is to love it, it’s not something to be dreaded.
